PRIVACY POLICY

New privacy legislation

On July 15, 2018, new data protection legislation came into effect in Iceland in accordance with the new European Union regulation (GDPR). In accordance with the regulation, we have updated our privacy policy.

Any information that identifies you or could be used for that purpose is considered personal information. Examples of this include your name, your contact information, or your purchase history.

BY•L uses personal information about you for the following purposes:

  1. Services

We collect personal information about you whenever you use our services, website or contact us via email, social media or service providers. The same applies when the service is provided by third parties or entities acting on behalf of BY•L. Please note that if you do not want to provide us with personal data that is necessary to perform a contract or when processing is required by law, we may not be able to provide you with the requested service, in whole or in part.

In order to provide you with our services or those of other controllers who provide part of the services you have requested, we must process the following types of personal data:

- Your name, address, email address, phone number, contact information, social security number, billing and payment information.

- Information about additional services and other relevant information.

- Information about online interactions and registrations, for example through social media such as Facebook and Instagram.

  1. Supervision of competitions

BY•L occasionally holds competitions. Personal data is processed to manage customer participation and to enforce the agreement between you and BY•L. Information is only stored for this purpose and for as long as it is necessary for the competition.

  1. Service providers and contractors

In some cases, BY•L uses third parties to perform services on our behalf. This includes processing debit and credit card transactions and shipping goods. BY•L has also entered into agreements with third parties for cloud services. Cloud services are online services that enable individuals and businesses to use software and devices from third parties. For example, such services involve storing information on servers, email servers and web solutions. Such service providers have appropriate policies and procedures in place to ensure that the information they handle is stored securely at all times. BY•L currently uses cloud services where information is stored in the United States and within the EEA.

  1. Current accounts

Each BY•L trading account is managed by an owner, who has the authority to add a reviewer, delete such registration, or make other changes to the account.

  1. Email and SMS

BY•L sends its customers emails or text messages containing information about the status of orders and deliveries.

  1. Cookies and similar technologies

BY•L uses cookies to provide you with a better service. Cookies are small text files that are stored on your computer or on a server.

BY•L uses this technology primarily to:

- Store the user's IP address. Information from the cookie identifies the user and if they have applied for services, participated in competitions or events, it gives the system access to information that we store. This way, we can adapt user settings to you and make it easier for you to use our services.

- Research and differentiate between regular and new users so that we can calculate the number of users and update that number.

- Let us know when a user views a certain part of the website to prevent the area from appearing to them repeatedly.

In some cases, we collect information on our website through temporary cookies. These cookies disappear when you close your browser. They are not stored on your hard drive, but only in temporary memory that is deleted when you close your browser. For example, we use temporary cookies to learn how our website is used so that we can improve its design and usability. Temporary cookies are not linked to personally identifiable information. You can always limit cookies using the options in your browser.
